Marietta Georgia and the Big Chicken

Okay, this post is a little different from the usual Travel and Fashion fare, but I've just got to show you the Big Chicken.  It's actually the KFC in Marietta, and I can remember going to see it when I was just a kid.  My cousin lived in Marietta, and this chicken was the thing she wanted to show off when we went to visit, probably about 1964 or 65 .

I was in Marietta this week, visiting my aunt and uncle who still live there.  I left their home and headed into town, hoping to find a vintage shop or antique store before heading home, and there was the chicken, right there on the corner of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Road.  I had completely forgotten about it, but the minute I saw him (her?) it all came back to me.

You may not be able to tell, but the beak opens and closes and the eyes roll around. I didn't stop and go in because I was in hot persuit of vintage clothing, but next time I'm in town, I plan to stop and at least check out the souvenir stand that's inside.

I love that chicken! There is a drycleaners shaped like a giant pink dinosaur a few hours south of my house, but that chicken takes the cake. They better never tear it down. I will join the "save the Marietta KFC" society with you if it ever comes to that. :)
